Valombreuse Botanical Garden

Today we're off to Petit Bourg to discover the Valombreuse botanical garden. Nestling in the heart of a lush valley, the Jardin de Valombreuse is Guadeloupe's first floral park.

It was in 1998, following the total destruction of his farm by Hurricane Hugo, that Magguy Chaulet decided to create the Valombreuse garden and showcase the island's finest plants.

A work of art in itself, this botanical garden reveals an exceptional wealth of botanical treasures in an enchanting universe.

Now that you know a little more about the origins and history of the Valombreuse botanical garden, it's time to dive into the many colors of this 5-hectare oasis and discover thousands of rare and little-known species. Among them: orchids, ferns, hoyas, anthuriums, alpinias... And let's not forget Strelitzia, a plant native to Africa and more commonly known as the "bird of paradise" because of its long, slender yellow and red cluster.

But that's not all!

As you wind your way through this garden, bubbling around the Japanese ponds and streams, you'll be able to observe a multitude of bird species.

And the best part of this superb garden? The Valombreuse Express, a 100% electric train that takes you around the garden with audio commentary by Magguy Chaulet.

For me, the Valombreuse gardens are one of the must-do activities in Guadeloupe.
