Visit to the Parc des Mamelles zoo

Located in Basse-terre in the commune of Bouillante, the Parc des Mamelles zoo takes its name from the massif in which it is situated and two nearby peaks.

Covering more than 2 hectares, you can observe over 450 animals divided into 85 different species, all from the Caribbean and French Guiana. But Parc des Mamelles isn't just an animal zoo, it's also home to over 1,000 plant species in an ideal, peaceful setting.

The zoo makes it a point of honor to protect and conserve rare or even endangered animal and plant species, and also has its own care center supported by the SOS Faune Sauvage association, which plays an active role in safeguarding Guadeloupe's natural heritage. The purpose of this care center is to safeguard and protect wild fauna.

The Mamelle Zoo is designed so that the animals are perfectly visible to visitors, without disturbing their peace and quiet.

The Zoo de Guadeloupe has thus become a member of EAZA, a genuine European quality label. Only 15% of zoos in Europe have obtained the EAZA Quality label. This distinction is not only a source of pride for Les Mamelles Zoo, but also a guarantee of quality and respect for animal welfare.

When you arrive at the zoo, you'll be given a map to help you find your way around! Follow the direction of the tour and enjoy this beautiful walk to discover many species such as red panda, iguanas, Maki Catta, parrots, racoons (raccoons) but also jaguar and many other species!

Don't miss the two animations/meetings with the caretakers. At 12:00 p.m., the felines are presented, and at 3:30 p.m., the Catta makis. Each session lasts between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on the questions you ask.

Don't forget to take a walk in the treetops. On a footbridge suspended 20 meters above the ground, get a new perspective on some of the species, and discover a few new ones too!
